    Unlike traditional lasers that use photothermal action (heat), PicoSure’s ultra-short pulse create an intense photomechanical impact (known as PressureWaveTM). This creates shockwaves in the dermis which induces the production of new crisp collagen and elastin with no damage to the skin.

    The FOCUS Lens Array treatment is quick and gentle, with only 10% of the skin being treated at the high energy Picosecond focus level during each pulse. The remaining 90% of surrounding tissue is treated with a lower-fluence for a gentler background effect.     Until the launch of PicoSure, Q-Switched lasers had been considered the gold standard for removing tattoos. Q-switched laser treatments use thermal energy to heat up and break apart the ink particles. Now with PicoSure, ultra-short pulses (one trillionth of a second in length!) hit the ink particle with a pressure so great, the ink shatters into tiny dust-like particles. Because the particles are so small, they are more readily absorbed and eliminated by the body.

    This can mean better clearance of the tattoo and less treatments overall. PicoSure’s ultra-short pulse duration goes beyond photothermal action creating an intense photomechanical impact, patented PressureWave™, resulting in greater disruption of the target for better clearance with fewer treatments, less fluence and without injury to the surrounding skin.
